So seriously, somebody out there needs to write a 33 1/3 book about "Leave Here a Stranger" or "Gold." Any takers?
Hey there everybody. I'm interested in seeing what everybody thinks about the new record. My opinion: the best Starflyer album since "Leave Here A Stranger". I mean, that's saying quite a bit considering how good "Old" was, but I feel like this new album is a huge step forward for the band (and they really do sound like a "band" here). Don't get me wrong, I appreciate "Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice" but there's only about three songs from that album that I continually go back to. It sounded to me like Jason was running out of steam. It was a "tired" record to me. Graceful, but tired. Now, I'm not sure what happened over the course of the last two years, but it's almost like he's been hit with a jolt of energy. These songs actually "rock". Not in the sort of disappointing "Portuguese Blues" sense of the word either, but the kind of great pop sensibility that Jason displayed on "Leave Here A Stranger" and "Everybody Makes Mistakes", only with heavier drums. So what I'm saying is that it's really good.
What are your thoughts?
I just joined, and unfortunately, the list doesn't seem to be jumpin' at the moment. Anyway, I've been on board the sf59 train since I bought Silver
way back when it came out, and I was a college student. Sadly, I'm still a student, only now I'm working on my Ph.D. rather than a B.A., and I've listened to every sf59 album along the way.
My favorites are still the one and only original, Silver
, as well as Fashion Focus
and the latest, Talking Voice, Singing Voice
. Just the other day I pulled out an early EP, She's the Queen
, to listen to while I went for a walk. Man, it still sounded good--does anyone else remember it?
Hey let's get this community going again--I can always use some starflyer conversation...
its been a while for anyone on here and thats a shame.
So what does anyone think about Island comin out soon. some of the demo's dooleys been posting on myspace are good and some are p[retty bad. But its Starflyer theycant fuck up its not allowed.

question, does anyone know what sort of gear Jason Martin has used over the years? I know guitargeek.com has a set up for him but it's from 1999 or soemthing and not accurate as of the last time I saw SF59. Also, how could I go about contacting Jason to ask him about his preference in tremolo pedals?
Eh, quiet around here.
Just saw on the website that sf59 has a new live cd for sale - the show was in Atlanta in 04, so I'm certain I was there. You should be able to hear me on the front row right beneith Jason Martin's microphone stand. haha.
I order the Gold and Silver reissues from T&N about 2 weeks ago, but they haven't arrive yet. I just emailed them to find out what the deal is.
Feel obligated to say also that Talking Voice vs Singing Voice is pure brilliance - its actually the first batch of sf59 songs that I'd really like to see lyrics for, because they seem to cut to the (frankly, rather depressing) core - not detached like sf59 tends to be. Unfortunatly, no lyrics from Talking Voice seem to be posted anywhere. Anyone know where I might find them?
Does anyone know how to get the guitar sound that Starflyer 59 has circa Americana
? I'm just a disgruntled folkie and don't know about such things as distortion and overdrive, etc.
Anybody have the skinny on the reissues? Nothing on the T&N or SF59 page. I'm wondering if they would be worth buying, if they're just "remasters" or if they actually have bonus material.
Can anybody here tell more?
hey guys im new here, and ive been a fan for a few months. however the only cd's i have are "leave here a stranger" and "old". while i like mellow stuff at times, "leave here a stranger" can get a bit dull, "old" however is great. a tad slow at times, but really great.
so anyways, i was wondering if any of yall could point me in the direction of some harder sf59 stuff, something that i could jam to in the car, or show my friends and say "hey guys lets dance!" not "hey lets all go to sleep!" (because i do listen to "leave here a stranger" when i sleep)
so if you can help me out, comment on this.
